In Pulaski County, KY, there is an ever-growing need for affordable housing. Kristi Philips, owner of South Central Insurance Agency (SCI), has seen this need firsthand in her role as Board President with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. Since 2011, Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County, KY has constructed and renovated houses, inspired by the belief that everyone deserves a quality home.

In recent years, the chapter has built four homes, including three as part of a Veterans Village dedicated to the memory of a beloved local veteran and shop owner. Witnessing how stable housing transforms lives has inspired SCI to donate money and time to Habitat, and Kristi is focused on growing community support to keep making a difference for her neighbors.

“Last year we were able to place a single mom and her son in a home. We’ve watched the son go from a scattered child to one who is proud of his surroundings and thriving in school and life now. That is a huge blessing,” says Kristi.

Homebuyers participating in the Pulaski County Habitat program contribute sweat equity towards their homes and manage an affordable mortgage. While Habitat is well known for building homes, volunteers also provide critical repairs so individuals can stay in their homes. SCI regularly participates in Rock the Block, a community cleanup day that assists homeowners in maintaining their homes, ultimately improving their neighborhoods’ property values.

A $10,000 donation would make it possible to complete critical repairs for multiple homeowners, like replacing windows and doors or winterizing a home. It also could purchase supplies needed to replace two complete roofs or put waterproof flooring in four homes.

Join South Central Insurance Agency in adding your voice to support affordable housing so that the Pulaski County community can increase strength, stability and self-reliance. Your support can change the future for families in our community.
