For over a decade, staff members of Top Tier Insurance Agency have risen early every Saturday to volunteer with the Miracle League of Franklin County, which invites kids of all abilities to play baseball. Starting with Top Tier’s April Cates, then agency owner Chris Nieves, the full agency now gathers on the weekends to support Miracle League’s amazing kids as they take the field to “Play ball!”
For many of these players, traditional baseball leagues are out of reach and Miracle League ensures they experience the same exhilarating moments that sports offer – from personalized walk-up songs to the thrill of hitting the ball. The smiles and high fives as players round the bases are some of the volunteers’ favorite memories.
“As soon as they get out of the car, they are looking for that familiar face to spend the day playing baseball on the field made just for them. Each game is a celebration of their abilities, not their disabilities,” says April.
Beyond volunteering at games, Top Tier Agency also supports Miracle League’s community events like Christmas parades, movie nights, and Autism Community Day, to foster a sense of belonging for children and their families in Franklin County. They’ve contributed to building an accessible baseball field and fieldhouse. Winning a Make More Happen Award supports their next big initiative: constructing a handicapped-accessible playground, complete with wheelchair swings, so all kids can enjoy playtime together.
