CrossPurpose is a nonprofit organization that aims to abolish relational, economic and spiritual poverty through career and community development.
Avalue Insurance is full of people who care about being active members of their community and getting involved wherever they are needed. When CEO Sarah Lampard found CrossPurpose – a nonprofit organization that helps people in need develop career skills – she immediately knew that it was a cause that her agency should be involved with.
Mentoring future business leaders
Lampard has a particularly close relationship with CrossPurpose; she regularly volunteers as a mentor in CrossPurpose’s career development program. “I’ve had the privilege of working with the awe-inspiring men and women of Denver, cheering them on as they rise above their circumstances and reach their career goals,” said Lampard.
Specifically, she is a “Change Agency” mentor, which is a nine-month idea incubator and accelerator program for CrossPurpose alumni. Throughout the course, Lampard and other volunteers provide tools, training and coaching to help alumni develop ideas, business, project and/or nonprofit organizations that give back to the community.
Hands-on industry training
CrossPurpose provides a great deal of services to their “leaders,” the students they serve who will ultimately become future business leaders. Tuition covers personal development and soft skills training, mental health counseling, staff coaching, free meals and childcare, resume-building assistance, job shadowing and mock interview practices.

Over the course of their training, the leaders ultimately develop an industry-recognized skill certification – such as a commercial driver license or a property and casualty insurance license – which allows them to move quickly into their field of choice. In fact, the staff members of Avalue Insurance helped to develop the insurance track for CrossPurpose in 2022. Programs like this are important for the insurance industry, where it’s becoming more difficult to find new account managers and CSRs.

Finishing the program results in these leaders having the knowledge, confidence and effective planning skills they need to succeed. After their training is complete, the leaders are given some exposure in their industry via a presentation to donors and investors, ensuring that they have extra support in launching their new careers.
Building a legacy
As a financial contributor, Avalue Insurance continues to support CrossPurpose as they aim to provide their services to even more future business leaders. They also encourage clients and other members of their community to provide donations to the nonprofit as well. The funding that CrossPurpose acquires from donors like Avalue Insurance helps to keep providing many of the services that are critical for helping their business leaders in training.
