All Lines Insurance in Spokane, Washington, has been named a Change Agent—earning a $3,000 donation from Safeco and Liberty Mutual to Second Harvest, which brings community resources together to feed people in need through food banks, meal centers, and other programs. All Lines agency partner Randy Ahmann learned about Second Harvest years ago through Boy Scouts functions; today, the entire agency is involved in supporting the organization. Here, he shares his giving story.
I’ve long believed that giving and volunteering isn’t something one should boast about on a personal level. However, when you give back as a business, things change a bit. Not that we brag about our efforts at All Lines, of course. But because we have such a broad client base, getting the word out about our giving does a lot more than make us look good—it means more visibility for the organizations we support.
And when it comes to a nonprofit like Second Harvest here in Spokane, that additional visibility could be the difference between a person having a meal or going hungry.
The impact Second Harvest has on our community is incredible. They distribute more than 2.5 million pounds of food every month to food banks and meal programs, feeding more than 55,000 individuals every week. We volunteer with the Bite2Go program, which was created by Chris Sloan at Second Harvest along with his wife, Brenna, and their business partner Tom Stevenson; it provides students who don’t have enough food at home with supplies to last them through the weekend.
We have been involved with Second Harvest since 2013—initially, it was one of four organizations we supported each year through donating $10 for every referral our agency received. Eventually, we felt that by focusing our giving with one nonprofit, we could be more effective. We decided to focus on Second Harvest because we clicked so well with the people there. Many have become friends and even clients.
Each month, a team of three or more All Lines employees works in conjunction with Genesis Church to pack and deliver Bite2Go bags for Shiloh Hills Elementary students. We can’t volunteer the way we used to because of the pandemic; only one person delivers food now, and we don’t take it to classrooms. But these kids still need food, and we’re still helping to provide it.
We set aside money in our budget and still donate to Second Harvest for every referral we get, too.
Our agency also encourages employees to volunteer with other organizations that matter to them—we provide 8 paid hours per year for that, and we’ll reload those hours if needed. We’ve even seen clients get involved with Second Harvest after learning about the organization through our work.
Ultimately, though, our volunteering with Bite2Go is all about helping kids. And I can’t tell you how great it feels to see their faces and hear them shout “Thanks!” when you deliver the food that is going to make a real difference in their lives.

Thank you for everything you do. I’ve been with All Lines for the last ten years. Randy was always so good to my dad. When he passed away four years ago, Randy sent a very nice personalized card and it meant a lot to us. I don’t even live in Spokane, but I will stick with Randy because you don’t find someone like him every day. Thank you.
